Grandson of Fritz Hansen, Søren, along with his brother Poul, took over management of the company in 1932. A joiner by trade, Søren oversaw product development. His own designs ideas were quite traditional, conforming to Mid-Century Modernist principals. However, through his collaborations he was more radical. Søren proved instrumental bringing functional form to Scandinavian design through the use of new materials, such as steel. Amongst others, he worked with Arne Jacobsen, Hans Wegner, Ole Wanscher and Børge Mogensen.
