Little is known about this man, who ended up to be highly influential in UK furniture design. After studying at the Royal College of Arts, Young went on to work for GPlan. A handful of his designs were launched in the early 1960s, but they did not prove to be commercially popular. As a result, these items are rare and have become highly sought after. In 1964 he left GPlan and founded Merrow Associates. Here he moved away from traditional Scandinavian design and more towards an Industrial style made popular by William Plunkett.
